Is the slot lost when flight levels are updated with CHG messages?

Any update of the flight plan will trigger a recalculation in ETFMS. However, there is a recovery process, which will attempt to maintain the same slot. Let’s assume that the flight will be arriving earlier at the regulation (estimated time over ETO is earlier than the old calculated time over CTO) then the old CTOT will be kept. If due to the profile calculation the flight arrives up to 10 minutes later at the regulation, the system will keep the old CTOT. Only in the case that the flight arrives more than 10 minutes after the old CTO at the regulation (unlikely, if only change the RFL is modified), the system will look for a new slot.

In fact the process is much more complicated, for instance when the flight is subject to several regulations, or when the tolerance window is extended. The principle remains, if the flight is subject to the same regulation, and the update is only updating the level, the system will maintain the old CTOT.

72% of the States are ready

The trial is an exercise organised and run in partnership, with all the actors involved in operations: air traffic controllers, pilots, flight dispatchers, aircraft operators and ANSPs. It triggers better appreciation of all involved, operational aspects, from each community’s point of view. Feedback, which is an essential element of the trial, will also bring more than just figures and statistics, but also opinions, ATCOs’ and pilots’ perception of the situation in regards to workload and flexibility and identify specific local constraints and particularities.

Adherence Task Force agreed on the GO Decision

The Adherence Task Force members reviewed the level of readiness across the ECAC area and for all communities involved: ANSPs and controllers, Aircraft Operators and pilots and flight dispatchers. Task Force members unanimoulsy agreed on the GO decision.

Further support will be deployed by the team in place to increase awareness and provide clarifications on various aspects. Updates will all be uploaded on this website.

The Task Force report will be published tomorrow.

Note: Task Force members are representatives from IATA, IACA, ECA/IFALPA, IFATCA, IASA, ACI Europe, EUFALDA, NATS, DSNA, Skyguide, DFS, Maastricht and Karlsruhe UAC and AOG.
